Would you like to put your business in front of avid Genevan’s? The members of the Geneva Academic Foundation (GAF) are true blue Genevans. The GAF raises funds for school programs and scholarships. This year GAF is running the Viva Promotion event on October 2, 2010 so that they will be able to promote it through the “backpack” distribution in the schools.
Information on the event is here. Over 90 businesses have turned in coupon information! There is no cost for a business to participate, but you must sign up on this form and provide an offer of introduction/sale for the booklet that will be printed – printed in advance this year. Participants buy the booklet for $50 and the first $25 goes to the GAF. They recieve the second $25 back in Geneva Chamber gift certificates to be spent at Geneva businesses. This year’s goal is to sell 400 booklets (250 were sold last year). GAF ran this promotion at Crate and Barrel for several years and last year made the switch downtown.
Please participate. There are a variety of ways. First, submit your information to be in the book. Second, consider hosting a special event at your business during the event. Third, volunteer to be a point of sale for the booklets.
More information can be submitted to Event Chairwoman, Lisa Otto at lisa.otto@bairdwarner.com, or call her at 630-715-6152, or 630-262-0866.
Thanks goes to Susan Huang of Sudden Values who has taken on the task of preparing the booklet in advance this...

Nancy Hanna is the local playwright who created The Psalm of Edie Catz. Hanna was inspired in one of her graduate classes at the University of Texas at Dallas to write a play about a newspaper article on a kid who got attacked by an alligator, Psalm 139 from the bible & a visit to Caddo Lake, Texas… a very weird and spooky place. From these inspirations, The Psalm of Edie Catz was born. The play has been read and work shopped in Texas, Chicago and California and is now debuting right here in Geneva!
It’s the story of a young girl named Edie. Helped by her Aunt June, “cute guy” Arlie and a couple snapping alligators, she uncovers the secrets of her mothers disappearance and gets up the courage to breakaway from her domineering father. A Texas-sized twisted tale of good vs evil.
It’s at the Geneva Underground Playhouse,
(right beside the Urban Grille on State St.)
In fact, the restaurant is extending a 15% discount to everyone during the run of the show who purchases a ticket.
They’re also cookin’ up some special gumbo and they’ll be a tasting at every performance. “Ummm yeah.”
